Welcome to the home of Lightfoot Portuguese Water Dogs. Here we raise, train, groom and love our canine companions. From puppyhood, our dogs experience the joys of open rural spaces and develop their love for water by visiting the pond in their own front yard.
We are Alex, William, and our two human children. I (Alex) have been raising, grooming, training and loving Portuguese Water Dogs since I was given my first PWD puppy in the early 2000’s. I am driven by a deep desire to see these working dogs become happy, healthy family companions while preserving the breed standard.

Meet The Puppy
Once the puppies reach the appropriate age, we encourage approved families to visit us. This initial meeting is vital in helping us match you to your puppy. While we consider gender, color and other preferences, our primary goal is to match puppy with a lifestyle that will suit their individual emerging temperament.
Join our Canine Family!
The big day has arrived! It’s time to pick up your puppy. We’ll walk you through all the essential things you need to know to ensure the smoothest possible transition for your new family member. This is a significant change for everyone involved, and we’re here to help guide you through it every step of the way from puppyhood to senior.
Our Health Testing
We wish to produce puppies with the highest quality of life possible. Consequently, all our dogs undergo a number of health screenings to give us the information we need to make smarter breeding choices.
Genetics
Our dogs are genetically screened for prcd-PRA, MO, JDCM, GM-1, IC, and EPORA
Eyes
Our parent dogs undergo CAER exams before breeding. Puppies will also have CAER exams before joining their new homes.
Hips
All of our breeding dogs undergo hip evaluations ( PennHip or OFA) to help minimize the likelihood of the development of hip dysplasia in their offspring.
